Overthrow Of Hawaii: The Beginning

Hawaii is an eight island chain in the middle of the pacific ocean. The original Hawaiians that lived here believed in many gods, wore clothes different from everyone, had their own language, and lived a life unvisited by any for several years. Then, in 1778, Captain James Cook and his crew traveled from Europe to visit foreign areas. They discovered Hawaii and immediately became friends with the Hawaiians by giving them food, foreign tools, supplies, and trading with them. The Hawaiians believed that he was a messenger of Lono, the Hawaiians most loved god, because he arrived right during the festival in Lono's honor. After staying for several days, he left and returned again. This time, after a couple of days staying with the Hawaiians, it became obvious that he was not a god after all. He fled but returned shortly after because of the damage that his ship had from a storm offshore. Cook was then killed when a fight broke out in Kealekekua Bay, Big Island of Hawaii. Cook's visit was one of the main things that started the over throw, along with the missionaries visit to the islands in the early 1800's, along with the Great Mahele of 1848 when Kamehameha passed the law allowing people to buy and own land in Hawaii. This changed Hawaii greatly. By introducing this to the Hawaiians, they changed in the way they lived, where they hunted, who  they lived with, and other important things.
